Jim, at the pub we can also celebrate Saint Brigid, the patron Saint of pubs! But that’s not all – she’s also the patron saint of poets, midwives, newborns, Irish nuns, fugitives, blacksmiths, dairymaids, boatmen, chicken farmers, cattle, scholars, sailors, and no doubt many more! For this reason she is the second-most beloved saint of Ireland!

This was great. Thanks, Jim. My Catholic school background also saw me in church, throat blessed, on St. Blaise Day. I'm must admit that hearing that story each year only made me afraid to eat unboned fish. As it turns out, I'm rather more a crustacean fan. Hope you're repairing well. Have fun in the UK. It appears that August may be the month in which we move to Portugal. I will keep you posted and can't wait for you and Jairo to meet Eric!

da piccola soffrivo moltissimo di mal di gola ed il giorno di san Biagio dovevo per forza farmi ungere la gola con l'olio benedetto; ma da noi c'era anche un'altra usanza: si andava in chiesa con dei tarali doli all'anice infilati a corona che venivano benedetti poi mangiati erano buonissimi. Il giorno della Candelora da noi c'è un detto: Se piove o tira vento nell'inverno siamo dentro, se c'è il sole dall'inverno siamo fuori (è un detto in dialetto che ho tradotto). Mi fa piacere che stai meglio e che puoi di nuovo camminare. un caro saluto

As a child I also participated in Saint Blaise's day at Immaculate Conception despite the fact that my grandparents were Episcopalian although silently I think my grandmother approved of at least this one sacrament seeing as how I was born with breathing issues I never came down with strep, bronchitis Or hadn't asthma attack the entire time
